I live on the Iowa/Illinois border where Illinois has spring HS ball and Iowa with Summer HS ball. Just when Illinois is finishing Iowa starts up. So I go right from Illinois to Iowa games. Works out pretty well for now but rumored that Iowa will go to spring ball within the next couple of years.

Tom, right you are. Now that I have my brain on straight I see how stupid my quote was. I guess I was thinking of freshmen in college pitching like they were doing Federation ball. I had that numerous times this year. Dave

Only one problem I can see having HS ball in the Fall is the girls playing Summer ball need to get out of the ASA mode of pitching and get to Federation rules. Quite a few illegal pitches early in the season. Dave
The point is if they can get in a baseball season in the spring, there is no excuse for not getting in a softball season. Also, not all HS football is played on Friday night. And in this area, the JV football games are played on Monday and, I believe an occasional Tuesday when varsity is moved to Monday due to weather.

But I've always believed the stick and ball games belong in the spring.

Mike, I guess I am just being selfish. Besides the weather, the reason I like it in the Fall is because if it was in the Spring, on quite a few occasions it would conflict with my college season games. Dave

I've read, but have no first hand knowledge, that one of the reasons for fall softball was so that they could use the "baseball" fields while they are not occupied by the boys.

In SC (and in NC), softball is in the spring where God intended.

Some say Nebraska is God's country, yet we still have softball in the Fall. Dave

If it's god's country, explain why there's NOTHING THERE!

Screw green, it ain't easy being blue!

I won't be coming here that much anymore. I might check in now and again.

Quite a few folks in the Lancaster, PA area may disagree with that

There is nothing there because they are afraid that any distractions would draw attention away from Nebraska football program

Nebraska football under Bill Callahan was terrible last year. Everyone would agree with that. Still I would take Nebraska with their football (under Bo Pelini), cornfields, flat ground and no smog over anywhere else. Nobody is holding a gun to my head forcing me to live here. I just like it here. Dave

Far be it from me to ridicule anyone for their choice of place to live (I actually LIKE cold winters...), but I've never lived anywhere that did not refer to itself as "God's Country"... and this includes the deep south, the southwest, and 3 states in the upper midwest... Maybe some of them are shortening "God-forsaken Country"...

My DD goes to college in CA, and the drive from MN to CA is long, but by far the longest part of that seems to be crossing Nebraska...
