No, I leave that to the showboat umpires.

The 3BU thought that I was being inconsiderate, and that "it's a common courtesy to tell her the game situation." I told the 3BU that "she's a big girl now, and can look around to figure out where the runners are. If she needs to know the number of outs, she can ask."

Well, that drove the 3BU nuts! She fumed on that the rest of the game... and afterwards, made it a point to bring it up very sarcastically with me in front of the UIC. I said the same thing you guys did - that it's coaching the player, and totally unnecessary. The UIC sided with the 3BU. We discussed it a little more, and I realized that it was going nowhere. I smiled and said that I needed to go get out of my plate gear and go home (had a 3 hour drive to look forward to). Oh well, c'est la vie.

Was this was high school? 1A? or 2A?

Yuck.

I hope either U3 or the UIC check out this forum occasionally ... but I'm sure they don't. Anytime I see an umpire go hang out at the mound waiting for their moment, I chuckle to myself. A guy loses all respect and all benefit of the doubt from that moment forward in my book.

I usually call them over at some point and let them know that coaching is not part of our job. It usually puts an end to it, at least while I am around. I am sure that they go back to it the next time they are on the field.

As of now, 8 people say that they inform the new F1 of the game situation. I'd like to hear from someone in that camp as to why they inform the new F1, and what is said (...without getting beat up by the 39 others who said no.)
