Oregon State ASU Game

Can someone explain what happened in the Oregon State/ASU game on ESPN2 this afternoon.
I missed something but a batter that had flied out was called back to the plate with a 1-2 count after some kind of illegal substitution by the defense.
As usual, the announcers weren't able to explain it, at least while I was listening.
