ASA Question #26
This is exactly as question #26 appears on the 2007 ASA test:
(SP Only) In a Men's Class D Slow Pitch game, B1 hits an over the fence homerun. The umpire should rule: a. B1 is out for exceeding the home run limit for Class D Slow Pitch b. B 1 is awarded a homerun. c. B1 is out and the inning is over regardless of the number of outs. d. None of the above. I would say the answer is (a). ASA gives the answer as (c). I don't have the 2007 book yet, but I can't believe that (c) is correct. Anybody know for sure?

This is a rule change for 2007.
Rule 5 Section 8A EFFECT: On any over the fence home run in Men's Class D Slow Pitch Classification, the batter is called out and the inning is over regardless of the number of outs prior to the over the fence home run. C is the correct anwser. At least for this year. ![]() Jeff Merriman |

Thanks, Fozzie. I see the change on the ASA website.
I don't have the answer sheet. Our UIC got it from ASA.

Asa #26
rule 5 section 8A EFFECT in the 2007 playingrulechanges (online at the ASA Softball .com) documents "on any over the fence home run in Men's Class D slowpitch classification, the batter is called out and the inning is over regardless of the number of outs prior to the over the fence home run".
Sounds like the ASA doesn't want any over the fence homeruns in Men's Class D slowpitch. |

After 14 pitches, you could be going into extra innings in a scoreless tie, and neither number 8 batter would yet have come up.

As for E, you are not an ASA umpire and asking that question. There is no "E" ball in ASA. Never has been, and probably never will be.

Probably picking nits here but in Indiana we do have a Mens ASA "E" class for Slow pitch, complete with a State tournament.
Since I've picked a nit, I should expand that to say that we have 2 state tournaments. A south and a north. No wonder our players complain about not being able to compete at the national level, were so bad we created our own classification. note to Indiana players and umps... save your emails, I was kidding. |
