Runner out of basepath

R1 on 2B. Ball hit to F6. R1 runs towards inside to avoid F6 as he picks up the ball and throws to first. Coach wants R1 out. I told coach F6 just made a continuous throwing motion and there was no tag attempt. Runner safe at 3B.

It's a HTBT type of play. If the SS has possesion of the ball and is attempting a tag he must be within roughly arms length to be in the "baseline".Remember the base line is not established until the fielder has the ball.

You mean base path, not base line.

As to the OP, if F6 made no tag attempt, R1 could run anywhere she liked.

Yup. Baseline is always established, when the field is laid out. Base path is what the runner establishes en route to the next base!

Out if more than 3' out of the base path to avoid a tag. Since you judged there was no tag attempt, it is kind of hard to call the runner out for avoiding the tag.

P.S. base path is a stright line from the base and where the runner is at the time the tag is attempted. In other words, if the runner moved inside or outside to avoid interferring with the fielding of the ball, this does not count. It is when the fielder gains control of the ball and attempts to make the tag... this is when the base path is established.

Since I deal mostly with adults, I can comfortably state that if the fielder is directly between the runner and the base and the runner clears an attempted tag with an outstretched arm, the runner is out of the basepath.

Usually the runner who makes a very exaggerated diviation is going to get called out more often than not.
