Carrying the bat to 1st
Just curious. For those organizations that don't allow the BR to touch 1st base with the bat in their hand, is it a force out or a timed out? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I hijacked the thread and changed the topic
I grew up near Charleston and used to hunt doves with my Dad in Manning with the family of J W McCabe. That was about 30 years ago though. I don't know the answer to the question that you are asking but if the out requires the touching of first base, I would assume timing play. I have been wrong before

Sec. 4. A BATTER-BASE RUNNER IS OUT under the following circumstances. (A - F edited out) G. When, after hitting a fair ball, and while the ball is still live, the Batter-runner carries the bat and touches first base or runs beyond first base while carrying the bat. Note: If this action results in the 3rd out of an inning, no runs shall score. H. When, after hitting a fair ball, and while the ball is still live, the Batterrunner goes into dead ball territory. EFFECT Sec. 4. G-H. In these situations, the ball remains live and in play and other base runners are in jeopardy. This does not apply to walks and home runs as the ball is dead in those situations. |
