I disagree. Why should the PU take the call at first? I am still 15-18 ft. behind first base in the A position, the same as I would be on a ball hit to F4.

15-18 ft behind first base would be right in the path of the ball - you'd be dodging, or if you're watching the ball entirely, having to turn too much during the throw to be in good position.

My friend and I actually agreed that if BU was stuck outside on this, that PU has the call. It was the inside sitch we disagreed on.

I've got to start reading these posts more carefully. I just went back and realized the original post had a runner on 1st. My case was with no runners on. That's why I said 15-18 ft behind in A position. In that case I would treat it the same as a grounder to 2nd. I would always come inside with a runner on 1st.

Because if you are handling the status of the ball, you are going out on the play, that's why.
