Learn very important lesson tonight. Always bring 2 pair of pants with you to the ballgame. Doing a High School Tournament tonight and very 1st pitch of the 1st game I hear a ripppppppppppp. Finished the ball game, had a camara sit-up behind the backstop. One of the parents stated after the ball game they had some good shots to put in the team's album. I guess it will be a while before I dont hear about this one.
Just another night at the ballpark Don |

Don,
Learned that lesson a long time ago. Always have extras in the car now. Probably very few of us that have not been there done that.... When the pics come out, post 'em.

I experienced that, too - of course. But I was lucky: I was training before the season's start in a friendly game, in a ballpark near home. I simply stop the game and tell them to go on for a while... 'I'll be back in few minutes'. After that it's not enough for me to have another pair in my bag: I asked my aut (very good at sewing) to enforce the seam in that strategic point.... BTW it's not worst than a very bad call at home-plate in the 7th inning....

Speaking of pants, the big thing around here now is that
most are having zippers put in the legs facing towards the inside. Makes removing the shinguards much easier. I had one pair done, older pair of pants, to see if I liked the idea, but that pair is almost ready for cutting into shorts for working around the yard.

Along these same lines - I wear different tights depending on what color pants - for the gray pants, I wear gray tights. For the navy pants, I've got dark blue tights. I've seen too many folks split pants & let everyone know what's underneath. At least, if/when it happens to me, they may have to look closer to notice.

The money you spend will pay off in the long run as they will last longer and they don't require "special" alterations to get them to work. People who buy other pants, often spend 2 dollars just to save a buck.

Well, I hope everyone is happy. By bringing this up, it happened
to me tonight. Hoings pants. I have lost a lot of weight and the pants were "drooping somewhat". I usually pull up the legs so when I get into position they won't sag down. Forgot to and I hear "rippp". Little catcher (HS, probably a soph., giggling said "Blue, I think you ripped your pants." "Yes, mam, so just do your job." So when the half inning is over, every batter from her team has to mention it. I had on grey slacks and compression tights, so no problem.

Yes I did have gray compression shorts on underneath. Which is the only thing that kept it from being much more embarressing than it already was..
GLEN Alvin team is up here this week playing in the tournament, I had to restrict the coach to the dugout in tonights' game she was out of control. Have you ever had a problem with her?? or maybe she was just having a bad night Don |

Don,
It was probably over 'high strikes'. She always complaining about no one calling them. She scratched several of the umpires in this area. I had her game Tuesday, and no problem, but earlier this year she was gave several blues a hard time at the Galveston tournament. I did call two of her games there, but had no problems.

Coach
Glen
She lost it a couple of times on my partner, once over a pulled foot at 1st and non-obstruction she wanted on her player coming into home calls that did not go her way. At the end of the game she was down 5-1 in the last inning and I called her runner out on a force play at 3rd in which she decided to come unglue on me, which I quickly restricted her to the dugout after she said "You're a Jerk". BUT it worked out best for her because after that her teamed rallied and won the game 6-5. Gary and I had her earlier in the day without any problems. Alvin went 4-0-1 in the tournament. Also had a team you probably seen from Brazowood they were excellent team and good coaches, best hitting team I've seen to go along with strong pitching. Coach said she had 6 players that could hit it over and I saw at least 3 different ones do it Have a good one Don |

Even with the "proper pants for umpiring" they still fail in the seems in the critical spots once in a while. sometimes I don't really get it. One guy I routinely work with, has a REAL TIGHT pair of gray pants that look like they came from the 1970's. He never has another pair with him and they never fail him. Maybe they are made from the TRUE 100% polyester like Herb Tarlick on WKRP in Cincinnati used to wear. Dave
