OK, still being case book deficient, what is the reasoning for this? That runner on 2nd (R1) has gotta go somewhere. _________________________________________ Not until the defense wakes up and does something and Blue cannot wait all night. __________________________________________ By rule, she can't stay on 2nd, since it was already occupied and no force was in effect on this play. Following this line of reasoning, she has to go somewhere legally, and that can onlY BE 1st. ___________________________________________ Exactly, but it is not up to the umpire to tell the defense this, sooooo if there is no action, kill the play and send her to 1B. ____________________________________________ Soooooo, why is the LBR negated? Because she's on a base? _____________________________________________ Yes, because she is on a base. You, as the umpire cannot call her out until the defense does something. ______________________________________________ By rule, she can't stay on that base! She has to go back to 1st. _______________________________________________ Exactly, and that is what you as the umpire, are going to do since the defense has done nothing. You, as the umpire, have given the defense every opportunity to do something with the situation. Now you take over, call time, and send her back to 1st. Personally, I have never seen this play. I have seen 2 runners on the same base, but the defense knew how to handle the situation.
