coach pulls team off the field
Hi, I'm basketball ref and will admit right now I know very little about soccer rules. But I am also the VP for our local association (all sports) so need help on a soccer ruling. Under FIFA rules, if a coach pulls his team off the field and refuses to play, is there any penalty that carries over to the next game? i.e. coach is suspended next game.
rule citation please. |

the ref process for this situation would be to abandon the match. insufficient players to continue. the ref would file a report with the competition authority, who would decide under its rules of competition, what action to take against the team. the subsequent action is not a concern of the lotg or the ref.
see atr 5.11 or 5.12 (2005 version) or near these in the 2006 or 07 version. |

well it could be
If the official decided that it was unsportsman like to pull the team he could red card the coach...keep in mind that if a coach pulls his or her team they are already hot about something and it typically could come with a few key phrases as his team left the field....
in this case with a red card YES the coach would not be able to coach the next game.... |

isualum,
I'm curious, on what grounds could you red card coach for leaving? OC, There might be something in your local associations rules concerning this, but there is nothing in the LOTG that would apply.

If the coach uses profane language, then that is grounds for dimissing him from the technical area, but still a red card would not be displayed. So, in closing, let me say it again, the act of pulling his team by itself is not something that is punishable by the referee, that must be dealt with by the league authority or responsible governing body. |

OK, I'm nicer, but ...

isu,
If you ever have a problem with a coach (not FED rules here, remember USSF) there isn't a card. You just go to the bench and politely tell them good-bye. I always first let them know there's a problem by asking, "Coach, is your assistant ready to take over?" After their response, I will add, "If ______ keeps up.... or "If you continue to_______ then your day is done." If the coach persists, just tell him his prsene is no longer needed on the sidelines and let him know he has to go." Only once in my many years have I been loud and vocal with a coach. That coach is also a HS ref ... one I've worked with .... and the worst I have ever seen. The assisgnor sent me to a tournament onece with the specific instruction to shut him up. The league had hand enough of him and the younger referees hadn't known how to handle him. The first time he yelled at me I looked at him and yelled from 15 yards away, "Knock it off,___." He said he wasn't going to, so again I yelled from about 15 so that everyone on the field and on the sidelines could hear, "One more word and I'll toss you out of here and you know I will." He was quiet the rest of the game. Card them in HS. Not in USSF?

p.s. I think "knock it off" and yelling across the field are inflammatory.

You're 100% right... but you'd have to know this guy and his personality. Regular tactics don't work. You have to give ultimatums to get is attention. He's oblivious to "That's enough" and "no more."
