I second the Nutty Buddy

would have bought it just based on the ads alone. The results clinched the deal. I took a direct shot last season as well. It bounced off like it's nothing. I think the confidence level has to go up...

Hmmmm...

that would seem to rule out skullys. Some rule them out explicitly.

I would not want to be the outlier organization in this. Some poor lawyer would have a field day. :D

I thought once one...

No problem,

I'm the King of Sarcasm at times.

This is the visiting teams rules:

Section VII. Umpire/Rule Books

A. The Official Rules of Baseball MLB are the guidelines to be followed.

Maybe, but this probably where the confusion arises

I forgot to mention that this particular game was being played using the Little League rulebook in a tournament hosted by a team that plays under a PONY format.

Not sure what format or rule book...

PONY and LL both banned the skullcaps

PONY was the last holdout among the youth leagues, I think.

Maybe part of it is these travel teams and tournaments borrowing / modifying different associations rules as well as growing pains of...

The part that maybe gets me a little fried is....

the lack of knowledge out there....and I am wondering where it comes from. I know coaches don't get and are only interested in the rules as much as they can formulate a strategy around them that will...

Interference / Obstruction Calls

I'm not sure if it's me or not, but it seems like I've had more problems with coaches resulting in ejections from a lack of understanding or communication on the INT / OBS calls. I think most of my...

I just watched one of them so far

Pretty good overall.

On some pitches, not all, seems like you were rising early. Otherwise, the mechanics are pretty crisp, clean.

I don't know if being that close to the catcher was the...

Put a fifth official upstairs

who could buzz down on obvious blown calls that can be fixed with minimum or no disruption.

The umps union should be OK with this, it increases jobs 25% and finds a place for the older guys to...

We agree more than disagree

The WA catcher was framing/sticking more than pulling pitches yesterday. The other night the ump should have told her early something along the lines of "that might be a strike if you don't yank it...

ROTFLMFAOASASP!!!

OK, back at you brother. I think I follow all the way up to the ASASP part.

Here you state the long-term evolution of the "incredible shrinking BB SZ" vs. the "ever expanding...

Tonight's Umpire

just rang a FLA batter up looking, the catcher "stuck" the pitch.

WA catcher just tried to "pull" one back, BALL.

He looks like he's 6-foot plus so he can see better over the top even though...

To be fair and balanced

she apparently is in the ICA Umpires HOF, so Illinois coaches like her.

Coaches in this series, maybe not so much.

I got ronalds back on this one

she's called quite a few strikes that the WA catcher had to pull back. What does that say about the SZ? Plus her head height "appear" low. And that is taking into account both the CF view and the...

Strike Two on the evading the ?? front..

Kyle:
with all due respect, to quote John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious."

That cannot be a serious example you raise. On what planet has that example happened?

I personally don't call your...

Here we go again..

If you go back and read my responses on the topic, what I tell the coach that is that clueless enough to come out and ask is "He can't act like that" whether it's the pitcher or the hitter...

That's not an answer......

I'm aware of that. I'm not asking if they are the same, I'm trying to find out why one form of deviation from the rule book is acceptable to you and one is not.

So let me get this straight

To those in the "anti-FYC" crowd:

Are you saying that in all your travels then you have never "given" a pitcher who is consistently hitting the black or the spot where the catcher holds his glove,...

I think there's a middle ground somewhere here between this position and Major Dave where as he stated, you wouldn't necessarily refer to it as a FYC as much as a "remember the expectation of...

Talking Strike Zone

In youth ball (12U), as long as you don't expand up or down too much you should be OK. MOST coaches want the kids to swing the bat, the others at that level know that walks turn into PB doubles,...
