Card in the sock

Saw this one today.

Quarterback, in the huddle, was pulling a card out of his sock, reading off of it, and then putting it back in his sock after breaking the huddle and taking his position under center.

Not sure if it was a play card or not... it probably was, but I never got close enough to confirm.

Legal? I suspect not, per FED 1-5-3, but wanted to get some other opinions.

My opinion: "Play cards not worn on the wrist or arm" doesn't leave much room for interpretation.

I don't think that you would be out of your jurisdiction if you went over to him and requested to see what was on the card. If its a play card then it goes. I guess anyother item pic, prayer, some type of inspirational thing, you could let go.

For me, I don't care what's on it. I care how he's using it. If he takes it out for every play, it's a play card and it goes.

This isn't a booger I'd pick.

The play card issue that was clarified this year as illegal by being worn on the belt is more for the device holding the play card than the card itself. I think it's a silly rule but if a player is wearing one of those on his belt I will make him move it to his arm. I'm not going to worry about a piece of paper they are putting inside their socks.

Had a junior tackle game with kids pulling 8x11 page of plays out of their pants and tucking it back in.

Not a phrase I will say - "Hey kid, what's in your pants?" (or socks)

I don't see why we would step in this. If he wrote them on his hand or the calf of his center, would you keep the center from playing? If I don't see it when the play transpires, I let it go. If it becomes a problem because it comes out or is showing, then I step in because I have to.
