Defensive Holding on 3rd Down
Let me preface this by saying I am not an official. I was at a game tonight (not rooting for either team).
3rd and Goal. Defensive holding is called. Half the distance to the goal and replayed 3rd down. Correct? For some reason I had it in my head that it was an automatic first down. Thanks |

Too much college and pro ball will do that to you, Spence.
Only roughing the snapper, kicker, holder or passer and pass interference result in an automatci first down under NFHS rules.

AFD only if the goal line would be reached when enforcing the full yardage of the penalty. Repeat the down.
