The defender did not have his feet on the ground and the "hurdler" did not lead with his foot or knee.

I know you guys just hate this but........
Rule 2-22

Hurdling is an attempt by a player to jump (hurdle) with one or both feet or
knees foremost over an opponent who is contacting the ground with no part of
his body except one or both feet.

What's to hate? The runner's feet or knees were not leading when he leaped.

I love the definitions most coaches and officiials dont spend enough time in Rule 2. In the play posted the feet or knees were not foremost
fore·most adj \-ˌmōst\
Definition of FOREMOST
1: first in a series or progression
2: of first rank or position : preeminent

So no foul just a great play

To meet the hurdling definition you have to threaten to wedge the opponent's head in your crotch. That's how it's going to be if your thighs are forward, which will be the case if you're leading with either feet or knees.

Thank you for proving our point, John.

Why would we hate this... you've posted the correct rule that shows not one, but both reasons this play is not hurdling. What's to hate?

Unless this is different in NFHS from NCAA\

9-1-2-i
There shall be no hurdling (Exception: The ball carrier may hurdle an opponent.)

Looks like he had the ball to me.

Aussie, it is different between NFHS and NCAA. In NFHS, the runner is not permitted to hurdle either.

Thanks Welpe - I thought it might be a difference - I don't have a NFHS rule book. It looked like a college game - wasn't in Texas was it ?
