2-21 Hurdling is an attempt by a player to jump with one or both feet or knees foremost over an opponent who is contacting the ground with no part of his body except one or both feet. No, don't ever call this. How many players do you know that can jump over a man while he's standing on one or both feet? "Sorry coach, your player's knees were touching the ground." |

Its really not that big of a feat. In fact, I saw it this year in a game. Far side of the field. DB breaks down to make the hit. Runner gives a littel shake and causes the defender to freeze in his tracks...he's still in the broken down position ready to make a hit. Runner hurdles the defender just like he was doing a track event.
I believe the NFHS rule prohibiting this act is good for the players safety. I do also believe that one has to be very picky about what they call a hurdle. Simply jumping over an opponent doesn't constitue hurdling. |

MJT,
I really was not addressing you directly. I honestly have no idea what your position is based on other factors because I did not ask. Peace

In a state quarter final game this past Friday night, I saw the following on a couple tries. White 42 would line up behind one of the down D linemen. He tried to time the snap and hurdle the linemen to block the kick. He got very high, but the linemen were all engaged in blocking very low. Technically this could be hurdling, but the linemen he hurdled were very low to the ground, if not on it. I guess if you watched film you might see if the one he went over was technically on his feet. I did not flag it, and would not do so. Curiously, my HL asked me about it the first time he saw it. HL thought he might be getting a boost from a teammate, but that was not the case. Then I had spectators behind the end line make comments about hurdling too. Even though white 42 could jump high, he never got close to the kick.

No. You are not the only person that took your position. There are also 3 posts on this very topic.
Peace
