Hair pulling penalties

So, i heard a fellow talking the other day. He had noticed my rather long hair and wondered if, now that many players in the NFL have long hair coming out of there helmets, would pulling an opponent to the ground by their hair be a penalty and, if so, what kind of penalty.

This would not be a penalty in the NFL. In fact, there was a play recently where Troy Polamalu intercepted the ball and while running down the sideline, was pulled down from behind by his hair. It has also happened to Ricky Williams a couple of times.
