Hair pulling penalties
So, i heard a fellow talking the other day. He had noticed my rather long hair and wondered if, now that many players in the NFL have long hair coming out of there helmets, would pulling an opponent to the ground by their hair be a penalty and, if so, what kind of penalty.
ANY THOUGHTS? |

This is not a penalty in FED either. Nowhere is there a hair provision in the book. The hair hanging out of the helmet is considered an extension of the body, similar to an arm. If you don't want to get tackled by the hair....don't have it hanging out of your helmet.
That being said, the only player that should be getting his (or her) hair pulled, should be a ball carrier. I read elsewhere that certain HS officials were calling this a HC tackle...which is ridiculous. If I see players in lower levels with the hair out...and there's been quite a few this season, I tell the coach at the PGC "should #64 become a ball carrier at some point, he can be legally tackled by the hair." Every single one of the 3 coaches has said, "good....I hope it happens", or something very similar.
