Extending a quarter
Football question from a basketball official...friend texted me this question since I work in the booth on Friday nights and at least have a understanding of whats going on out there.
Offensive penalty at end of 1st quarter...clock expires, 5 yd illegal motion penalty on 3rd down. Penalty accepted. It is now 3rd and 9. Should there be a untimed play in the 1st quarter or spot the ball, change ends and start the 2nd? |

A period must be extended by an untimed down if during the last timed down of the period, one of the following occurred: a. There was a foul by either team and the penalty is accepted, except for those fouls listed in 3-3-4b.
