Overtime carry over

A makes FG and roughing the kicker is called. When they accept penalty, to be carried over to B's possesion, is it 1st and 10 from the 25 or 1st and goal from the 25?

1st and 10.

The only time A ever has 1st and [more than 10] occurs when A fouls after the chains have been set and the ball is ready for play.

MB: The title of this thread is "Overtime Carry Over". This is an instance where a team would start with 1st and more than 10. It's always 1st and goal in overtime.

Quote:
5-1-1: To start the overtime, the offensive team shall put the ball in play, first and goal, on the defensive team’s 10-yard line or succeeding spot if carry-over penalty has been administered (15-yard line for six-player football) anywhere between the hash marks. The first offensive team shall have a series of four downs. That series shall be terminated by any score by the offensive team or if the defensive team has possession of the ball.

CANADIAN RULING:

A can opt to:

- give back their 3 points, move the ball up 15 yards, and scrimmage with an AFD, or
- keep the 3 points, and upon's B's choice, move the KO up 15 yards (to the B-50), or B's 1D back 15 yards (to the B-20), or
- if the score was on the last play of the game, the 15 yards in A's favour does carry to the first OT period

Unless you're in misery

I'm not sure if it is still the case, but in Missouri they used to use the NCAA overtime procedure, which meant you could get first downs in OT, but in the NFHS recommended overtime procedure the line-to-gain is always the goal line, so a fight that breaks out at the end of regulation with a host of players from one side getting penalized and only a few from the other, could leave team A in overtime series with a first and goal from their own 20.

Overtime starts at the 20 yard line in Ohio.

It would be 1st and 10 for B at the 35 yard line.
