Penalty on try
Case book 8.3.2 Situation A-
Following the penalty, the try is from B's 8. A1 advances to B's 4 and fumbles. The fumble rolls into the end zone where B1 intentionally bats or kicks the ball across the end line. Rulling- The measurement for the penalty for B1's foul is from B's 4 where A1's run ended. The new try is from the 2-yard line abywhere between the hash marks. Here is my question- Is there any difference in the play if we say that B intentionally kicked the grounded loose ball on the 2 yard line making it enter the end zone and across the end line? My thinking, which is not always correct, is a new force has been added to the ball. On a try does this effect anything? |

Quote:
For a try, a safety scores 1 point, see 8-3-3: "During a try, A may score two points from what would be a touchdown or one point for a field goal or safety by B under rules governing play at other times during the game."

It is likely, given the circumstances described by kfo9494 (foul in the field of play), that the penalty will be accepted, the result of the play (1 pt. score) apparently not being what team A was interested in.
