My freshman year in college our JV squad ran that play. We had the old style astroturf so they got a good bounce. I was running the chains that day and got a good look at it.

Years later I had a HS team try to run it to my side but it skipped and rolled to the sideline where B recovered before it went OB.

This play may be new to Arizona, or at least this particular reporter in Arizona, but it's been around for generations. Considering his reference to a "backwards latteral" pass, I'm not surprised.

I guess if I am R I am ingoring "intent to decieve" here, like I would on fake handoffs, reverses, etc....

Wow, the old Bouncer Rooksy is back. NAIA Doane College pulled this on Nebraska Wesleyan a couple weeks ago and landed them on ESPN's College Football Night (or whatever that show is called). Of course, I'd brag about Doane pulling it off since I'm an alum, and the Head Coach is a buddy of mine from our days there. To brag even further, it was perhaps Nebraska who first pulled this off way back when Turner Gill (current Buffalo U coach) was our QB.

Just about every offensive football play involves "intent to decieve". Maybe a QB sneak or a fullback up the gut don't, but most plays involve fake handoffs to one or more players. There there are the statue of liberty type plays, etc. There is no need to ignore the intent to decieve because it's legal - applaud it and enjoy the play.

I had a coach describe this type of play to me in our pre-game discussion. I laughed and thought he was crazy for devising such a risky play. I guess insanity runs through coaches DNA. I thought for sure it would never work but I guess he was crazy like a fox.

What he said! LOL. I didn't see your question till now and got beat to it. But here's another add to the question...easy answer: Who was Nebraska playing that day? And...what was Mike Rozier doing on that play?

The team was no other than the Boomer Sooners. Rozier was out with a nagging ankle sprain. Roger Craig filled in.

Right team, however, if memory serves me right, both Rozier and Craig were in on the play, faking a sweep pass pattern.
