I agree with both pieces of advice. First, try to convince your R on the field to do what the rule requires. This call is an absolute no-brainer, and the R is jeopardizing his officiating career by ignoring it.

But don't hold up the game, quit, or otherwise make it everybody else's problem. The ejection should have occurred on the field, and the player sanctioned by the state. Write the report as if he had been ejected, in order that both the player and (if the state sees fit) the official are sanctioned.
