This week on Paul Harvey at noon and again in the Detroit Free Press there was a story about a HS FB team in Loveland, Colorado who sprayed Pam on their uniforms before the game. According to the Free Press this was done on the orders of the Head Coach.
According to the Free Press Loveland won the game 20-12. The Coach has been suspended for all playoff games and one Assistant for one game. Does anyone have the particulars on this situation and the subsequent rulings? How and when did the Loveland team get caught? Why didn't game Officials catch the illegal substance early in the game? If they did were the players ejected? Was the Coach ejected? Did Loveland have to forfeit the game? If not, why not? Should such a team even be allowed in the playoffs? According to the broadcast the CHSAA's only statement was "Thank goodness this doesn't happen too often!" I am sure they are grateful for that but I would think they would have A more serious response to what must surely contradict all that HS sports stands for. I know the details often get turned around when reported in the press so I have withheld any judgement until the facts are in. Does anyone have those facts?

There's several posts about it on the McGriff Football board. Pretty much old news now, but you can still check it out.
No one was ejected. The players were forced to change jerseys at halftime. The game was not forfeited. No one knows why the officials didn't know the rule but they checked the book at halftime. That's why the kids had to change jerseys. And, yes, the CHSAA did have more of a response than what you wrote. The coach has been blamed for the entire incident and rightfully so. You can't place blame on the kids. What 17 year old kid do you know that would say, "No coach, that's illegal. I'm not going to do it."? For that and other reasons, the team is not being punished, just the head coach, and to a lesser extent, the asst. coach. Sounds fair to me.

Thanks for filling in some of the blanks...Please post how the Loveland team does subsequent to this incident.
Were there any comments from the coach on how he expected to get away with such a foolish plan?

Quote:
The referee is suppose to ask with the umpire as witness, "are all you players legally equipped." Once upon a time is was incumbent for officials to check players but now the coach's certification subjects him to a penalty if a player is not legally equipped. I would love to hear the officials side of the story. |

Unfortunately, none of the things that should have happened, did happen. There really hasn't been any word from the officiating crew, as you may have guessed.
