Question: NCAA Rules Materials

I have downloaded the NCAA rule book but plan to purchase the sprial-bound version soon. There are other books called "Reddings study guide" and the "bin book" for penalty enforcements.

I recently purchased the CD on rulebooks.com for $65 with integrated AR's and videos which are helping. But what about he other material? I'm 'green behind the ears' with respect to college rules and have quite a bit to learn.

I'd rather not overspend but at the same time will gladly spend the money if the material is worth it.

I am also jsut starting out, I personally have liked the rules differences book, helps separate what can be done at either level. If you know Fed then you need to learn what NCA can do.

Have you visited Refstripes.com? There is a lot more NCAA-related discussion there than there is on this board.

Another place with some great resources available for free download:

Thanks Mike for the endorsement.

Another thing I would suggest is buying/borrowing the NCAA DVD that is published each year. Dave Parry, the supervisor for the Big 10 and National COordinator of officials narrates this and goes over both good and bad plays. Learn a lot about mechanics and rules this way.

I got the bin book for both and they're ok. If you'r looking at getting into college, knowing enforcements help, but knowing the rules is key. The rules differences book really helps with that. Redding's guides are also good tools.

Lastly, there is a highly respected official (possibly former official) that sends out emails with case plays weekly. Email me and I can provide you with his email to be added on the list.

At the end of the season, do buy the FRD manual. It will help out a lot.

And yes, "he" was former official. Darn good one at that.
