Alabama ejections will result in fines

http://www.wsfa.com/Global/story.asp...1&nav=menu33_5

High school coaches and players who get themselves ejected from high school athletic contests will now have to pay a price.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association has a new conduct rule that imposes the following penalties.

The first ejection will result in a minimum fine of $300.

The second ejection will result in a minimum one-game suspension and $500 fine.

The third ejection will result in a minimum suspension for the remainder of the season and a $750 fine.

According to the AHSAA, "if an ejection occurs during the final contest of the season, a monetary fine will be placed on the school according to its severity and what number ejection it is."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

In Georgia, I have only seen two games with ejections, and the ejectee was suspended from the next game both times. The first time the player was ejected after the first play from scrimmage, and still had to sit out the next game. I thought the rule was the same in Alabama, but apparently it isn't. What is the rule in other states?

The downside is that officials might feel pressured to give players and coaches more leeway on the field, since tossing them results in a fine.

That remains to be seen. The Alabama State High School Association tends to talk tough but then side with the schools over officials.

A few years ago they had a football crew jumped on by about ten people while they were running off the field at Parrish High School. It was all caught on tape and the school was suspended for two years from any football playoffs. After the hype went down the AHSAA said that the school had classes for players and fans and lifted the ban after about six months.

What a slap in the face for the entire officiating people.

Interesting. I'm assuming the school of the coach or player has to pay the fine. Sounds like sports activity fees will be going up in Alabama.

The booster club will probably pay for it. Money is no object for idiots.
