The under 19 Canada Cup is being held in Waterloo, a city not too far from where I am and I was lucky enough to get a couple of games in the tournament.

The game went really well, it got a bit scrappy near the end, but I managed to get by with no live ball fouls, only procedures, offsides and one Facemask call. A pretty good game...
...or so I thought...
Now the home team, which also happens to be the local team was loosing by about a touchdown in the dying seconds of the game. According to them, the clock ran when it shouldn't have, which led to us, the officials, costing them the game. Now none of the on-field officials can verify this, nor can the 5 evaluators who watched from the press-box so after a lengthly conference we decided the game is over. Now as I'm walking back to the dressing room which involves going under the stands, we are getting boo-ed and having stuff thrown down on us.

Other than that it was an awesome day, I was LJ and someone else from this forum was accross from me at HL, we did a good job, and I even saw him show the crew a real life example of capitalism .

Man I love this job

I guess that means your record is 0-1 so far this year?

Come down to Highland Park, NJ

Anytime they lose a game they have a riot and the officials have to have a police escort!

It's like the game a couple of seasons ago between two of the Catholic HSs. We (I) had a fumble call right before the goalline that made one of the schools attempt a second try for a tying TD. They didn't make it.
As we're running off the field here a couple of the "Christian" moms yelling "YOU SHOULD ALL ROT IN HELL!!!"

Honestly I think sometimes the Christian schools are the worst to call at as far as fan behavior. lol

I concur, particularly with the "fan" behavior, and I would also like to add "coaches". Our crew stopped officiating Christian schools a couple of years ago due to the parents and coaches. We went back to doing the public high schools.

I have truly seen a shift in my years of officiating from one where the kids were our biggest issue to one now of the parents being the issue. For the most part, many of the kids playing today are very respectful to me, i.e. "yes sir", "no sir", "thank you"...

A paradox

Absolutely. On the one hand, a credit to the coaches for producing polite and sportsmanlike players and on the other, such a stark contrast to how the coach himself feels justified in acting.

Enlightened self-interest on the kids' part. If they screw up and cost the team 15 yards, you'd better believe they're going to hear about it. Especially from the coaches that like to yell.
