Reading rule 8.2.1c - touchdown
I was wondering if someone could give me a real life situation of having ruled touchdown under this rule, Or if someone could give a situation example of this call. Besides A fumbling the ball into their own endzome and no one wanting to get dirty and fall on the ball. I am at a loss for thinking of a situation for this rule. Unless it would be as a result of joint possession in the endzone. I tried the case book but their are no example rulings that I can find under this specific rule. |

I want to say Bob M. had it happen to him once, the team ran towards the endzone thinking he crossed the goaline he dropped the ball, it landed in the endzone and no player attempted to get it. Touchdown.

REPLY: Not me personally, but rather to the guy who taught our rules class when I was a rookie. As snake-eyes said, the runner dropped the ball before crossing the goaline thinking he was in the endzone. No whistle. But also no one scrambling for the loose ball just laying there. But our teacher (the LJ in the game) trying to avoid invoking that rule asked one of the teammates of the geographically-challenged runner to hand him the ball. As soon as he picked it up, the LJ blew the whistle and rang up the TD! So, I guess even that wasn't really an invocation of 8-2-1c. But it would have been had the teammate not been so accommodating.
