Shifting 2 Running Backs Formation at the Same Time
I need to shift 2 of my running backs at the same time from one formation to another. My QB works from under center. I know I can shift them to a different formation but, my questions are, what is the latest time I can shift them without it being a false start or illegal shift? Can my QB be under the center when the shift occurs? Do I need to alert the Head Official of the shifting method before the game?
The reason I am asking is, the need to shift my horse from one side of the formation to the other side as defenses are loading the side he normally runs to out of base formation. |

After a shift, all players must pause for at least one second.
It doesn't matter where your QB is. It doesn't matter if you tell us as most officials should know what a shift it is. Make sure your QB doesn't call for the snap until all his players are set. That will make sure most shifts are legal. |

Thanks, this confirms my thought process on this matter. I asked about informing before forehand only because I've been coaching a long time and on the rare occasion I have seen some hinkey calls go against me when I knew the interpretation by the official was wrong. I've been wrong in the past as well, thus this leads me to asking for clarification.
