Just happened....

....in my JV game Monday night.

I was the R. I mentally reached for my flag but physically let it go.

On Friday night, I'd flag it as a false start. The movement might hinder the back, but it might also throw off the defensive thrust.

Fs

If you are all saying it's an illegal shift, than if, before the snap, the motion man were to reset on that play, as well as the jumpy back, does this play become legal? I think not...If my R were to see this, he would throw a FS hankie.

I've got a false start on that one. Yes at lower levels I let it go and advise the coach or player but it is a false start.

this is most definetly a false start. he missed the snap count and his heels came off the ground. you have to have a call on this play, you can't possibly have a no call here.

I just went to the site and the Block in the Back clip loaded. BTW I would say both were illegial as a Buckeye fan. But I would not have flagged either when considering the angles of the blocks.

I posted a new play on the web. It deals with the issue of a back moving slightly in the backfield. I think this is highly debated issue and would like to get your opinions.

Go view the play and let us know what you would call?
No Call, False Start, Illegal Motion, Illegal Shift?

Thanks for the 227 people who participated on the block-in-the-back play. This is the most participation in a single play so far... The play was up for about a week.

Question for the play:
Are the two key blocks legal.

Poll Results
1. Both Blocks Legal 45%
2. First block Illegal block, 2nd one legal 47%
3. Second block Illegal block, 1st one legal 3%
4. Both blocks Illegal 5%

Close call on it... sometimes wish there was an official god who would give us all the answers...

Please send me any feedback you have on the site. Many of you are asking about archives. I am working on that issue. Thanks for your continuing support and encouragement on the site.

I'm still getting the Block in the Back video - I'd like to see your new play.
