Overly Visible FT Count

I've seen several officials during this NCAA Tournament with an exaggerated FT count, as if they're counting on an inbounds play or closely guarded situation.

Is this a new preferred mechanic in some areas?

There is nothing good that can come from it. It is specified to be small and discrete, different than all other visible counts, for a reason

I asked the same question in the 2nd round. I have still seen some use a much more discreet count, but I have seen more officials using the more visible, inbounds play type count in the tourney. To each his own.

I usually call it when making the free throws would send the game into OT.

I have seen it called once and I still give the official crap about it every time I see him.

But the kid took like 15 seconds and the coach said nothing to us, but yelled at his kid. The player had a weird routine and even walked away from the line in the circle. Then came back to the line and took his sweet time. I was funny when it was called, but it took his second FT for this to be called.

It was a good call but never come close myself since.

Peace

Once in person by a partner in a game I was working.

I've since it called twice in the NBA...once on Karl Malone and the other on Dwight Howard.

I've seen that too. Yeah, it is weird when many NCAA refs aren't doing it or very stealthy but then a few are doing these exaggerated motions. Don't bother. Looks stupid.
