refresher- two fouls on shot

Player A drives, Fouled by B2. During the shot and AFTER the first foul player A pushes off and scores the basket.
I assume you don't count the basket. So it would be two shots? Do you report a foul on player A? If so do you clear the lane for the fts?

When you say "during the shot", do you mean after the try was released?

1. Foul on a continuation type play by the defense then to get the shot off offensive player pushes off.

2. Foul on shot. Shot is released and Player A commits charging.

Adam, I read "during the shot" to be within the frame of continuous motion.

Assuming B2's foul was after continuous motion started, the ball remains live until A1 either completes the shot, ceases to shoot, or commits an infraction of the rules. Or, I guess it is technically possible for A to call a timeout before A1 releases the try....but I doubt that will ever be seen.

Since the ball remains live, A1 can, technically speaking, still commit a player control foul.

Should it be called? There might be that once in 20 years play where it would make sense....otherwise, probably not.

You really can't let get a shot off illegally, however. That really wouldn't be fair.

What can you do?

Maybe, , B2's foul was just before A1 started the shooting motion, making the ball dead before A1 pushed off.

If the second foul is after the release, it is often easy to ignore the last contact as the first contact often contributes to the second contact.

(edit: I assume B1 fouled A1, who in turn fouled B2)

Assess both fouls. The PC foul means no basket can be scored. Clear the lane for A1 to shoot two FTs.

B inbounds and can run the endline if the last FT was successful (spot throw-in, if not successful)

Bob:

I agree with you to a point. Yes, we have a FDF, but when we have a FDF the ball is put into play as if the last foul in the FDF is the only foul that occurred.

That means the penalty for a PC is a Designated Sport Throw-in nearest the spot of the PC. Therefore, Team B's Throw-in will be a DST nearest the spot of A1's PC.

Caseplay 4.19.9 Situation A

A1 leaps high and is fouled by B1 as he/she taps the ball which subsequently goes through A's basket. A1 fouls B2 in returning to the floor.

RULING: This is a false double foul. The foul by B1 does not cause the ball to become dead. However, the player-control foul by A1 does cause the ball to become dead and also dictates that no goal can be scored. Since the goal is not scored, A1 is awarded two free throws for the foul by B1. No players are allowed along the lane as Team B will be awarded the ball following the last free throw. If the last throw is successful, the throw-in is from anywhere along the end line. If the last throw is unsuccessful, the throw-in is from a designated spot nearest the foul. (4-1; 4-11; 4-41-1; 6-7-7 Exception c: 6-7-4; 7-5-4a)

Mark--

exact case play in book. if last free throw made he can run the end line. if not successful spot throw in. 4.19. something. the citations dont really explain anything. another result they want i suppose. i havnt really thought about it to see if there is any rule support for it.
