Those that produce television shows, be it a scripted show, news, sports, weather, or live events, like sports, don't want viewers getting dizzy, and distracted. I'm sure that many of us have seen a newscaster, or talk show host, wearing a tie with a pattern that is changed by the camera lens into a distracting moiré pattern.

Proper Clothing Pattern for the TV

Details and intricate patterns prove to be little trouble for our eyes. For the camera, however, pinstripes, checks, herringbones, and textured fabrics will cause havoc for the camera. The result is what looks like the pattern is “swimming”.

This is because the details of a herringbone suit, for example, will interfere with the camera’s sensor and will produce a moiré pattern which after awhile is distracting and dizzying for the viewer.
