And now I think it's entirely possible that this game will bring out another push to institute a shot clock in MN. Hopkins played stall-ball for a fair amount of the second half and the overtime periods. The final OT consisted of Hopkins winning the jump ball, followed by 3:40ish of one player standing near the midcourt line holding the ball, a timeout, a drive with a missed shot, a timeout, another missed shot, another timeout, and then the final buzzer-beater.
If we are going to have a shot clock in Minnesota, we will need to go to three officials. Most of the state uses two officials for varsity until tournament time and managing a shot clock with two is extremely difficult.

I completely agree.

Thinking back on my games this year, I can't rememeber more than 3 or 4 instances where a team kept possession for over 30 consecutive seconds without taking a shot or turning the ball over, so I don't think a shot clock is necessary. But I'm sure it'll be talked about during the off season.

I disagree. I officiated in CA and currently NY, both are shot clock states, and also both 2 man states. You don't NEED the third with the shot-clock.

While your point remains, CA is not exclusively a 2 whistle state. It depends entirely upon the section and association covering the games.

Depends on the definition of need, I guess.

The oldtime NBA guys didn't think they needed 3 in the 1980s, either. Same argument I hear from some oldtimers here at the HS level -- they think those who push the hardest for 3 can't hack it with 2.

I heard one top official locally say in the last 3 years that they should eliminate 3 in our biggest conference and just hire the best people to work 2 for more games and pay them 1.5 times as much.

From an officiating viewpoint, I love the physical, and mental, challenge of the two person game. But, in my heart of hearts, I know that three person is best for the game.

Don't get me wrong as I think 2 man helps a tremendous amount but it is not a necessity for a majority of HS level games.
