The interesting part was who my partner was...

Just wanted to share an interesting experience I had last night.

I was assigned to work a couple of the local men's league quarter finals of their league last night. The games themselves were the typical men's league games. Some complaining and whining, nothing unusual or "T" worthy. In fact for the level of play the games were uneventful.

I have refereed the game for 24 years now and I have be fortunate in my career to have worked games with teams from Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Ukraine and USA playing the game but until last night I had never worked with a non North American official.

I worked the games with a gentleman from Paris, France. This guy had come over to Canada from Europe for his professional career in the oil and gas industry. Very nice guy, called a good game, no problems communicating - he spoke heavily accented english. I would describe his mechanics as "euro-flair" but you knew what he was calling. FIBA rules and in Canada all the calls were made in metric and both English and French.

All in all a pretty fun night.

I'm sure that if you had gotten into a rules dispute with him he would have surrendered.

Every other year, we have a couple of English lads come over from England for a couple of weeks to officiate football. They do club and college games over there. They do a few things different and it is always interesting.

So what's the metric equivalent of a ten second violation? How about a double dribble? How much is a three point shot worth in metrics?

A) 8 sec violation
B) Does anybody even call double dribble anymore, eh?
C) Points aren't an imperial/metric unit of measure so they are the same but we do move the 3 pt line back further to balance it out.

Have a great day, eh!
