Unsporting T

4th Quarter foul on A1 on the end line against home team. Coach A Stands, paces down the sideline (stays in the box), then rips his jacket off and tosses in in the lap of a player. Demonstrative? Do you assess an Unsporting "T"?…or let to go since he stayed in the box and didn't "throw" the jacket?

I didn't like the attitude and whacked him (I was in the slot opposite bench and watching)….I liked the call at the time. Curious on some feedback. 2nd game of the season and already called a T. Hope it's not a long season

Doesn't sound that bad, but probably a had to be there, the act itself and the action leading up to it.

I would have to see it and know the context of the action. But taking off your jacket is not a T'able offense in itself.

Peace

Does not sound like something I would bother with. He was frustrated - maybe with his player. How do you know he wasn't just upset with his kid who fouled?

If it were a college game it would be a T.

As stated above, I would have to be there to see it for myself.

Nobody could throw a coat like Clem Haskins did when he was at Minnesota.

That doesn't excuse the behavior, especially at the HS level.

Agreed. It's a T I've already assessed against a juco coach about a week ago.

I don't know - I don't think it's automatic. Depends on the game, the coach, and any previous behavior. I know we can say that about any situation, but end of game - his kid fouls and he's pissed at the player, I don't see a need to penalize that. Maybe...just depends.

It's hard to say for sure without actually seeing how it was done, but you should absolutely penalize a coach if his/her actions could insight others.

What I mean is that I've heard coaches yell about things before, which gets his players going too. It rarely happens, but I've seen players get worked up and start playing rough, leading to in-game issues. If you whack the coach for such things, then not only will he/she know to calm down, but players will know not to get out of hand too.
