New 3 Man Mechanics
In the new official's manual, they have made some pretty big changes which I am surprised I haven't seen discussed here much so far.
It involves the new switches as outlined on pages 73-74, primarily related to fouls against the offense called by the Trail or Center official. It was changed a few years ago to where there was no switches on these fouls, essentially eliminating a bunch of long switches. Now, the long switches are back. THoughts?

It's been discussed.
Long Switch Officials positioning after calling foul in back court headed other direction

We discussed it at our meeting.....amidst some grumbling.
Took me a few scrimmages to get used to......and I had one partner who simply refused to do it.

In IL, there's "a long switch" only if L calls a foul on the offense (or a foul on immediately after the old D obtains a rebound). If C or T calls a foul on the offense, still no long switch.
So, like all mechanical items, do what your state wants. |
