New 3 Man Mechanics

In the new official's manual, they have made some pretty big changes which I am surprised I haven't seen discussed here much so far.

It involves the new switches as outlined on pages 73-74, primarily related to fouls against the offense called by the Trail or Center official. It was changed a few years ago to where there was no switches on these fouls, essentially eliminating a bunch of long switches. Now, the long switches are back.

THoughts?

We're not doing the long switch in Ohio...if the new trail calls a foul, he/she will report it and stay at trail.

Officials in TX (UIL & TASO officials) are not using this new mechanic.

Thanks for letting us know.

We discussed it at our meeting.....amidst some grumbling.

Took me a few scrimmages to get used to......and I had one partner who simply refused to do it. :(

In IL, there's "a long switch" only if L calls a foul on the offense (or a foul on immediately after the old D obtains a rebound). If C or T calls a foul on the offense, still no long switch.

So, like all mechanical items, do what your state wants.
