7. 2 fingers in air and verbalize 2 shots
8. Visually (modified birddog) and verbally identify shooter
9. Visually and verbally identify spot for throw-in that will follow the 2 FTs
10. Report to table

I think this is how I would do it now. But I'll say, for a call that most people will never make in their entire career, this is extraordinarily specific process.

Remember the intentional foul is taken out of bounds nearest the foul, not opposite the table like a technical (NFHS).

With your modifications is how I learned it several years ago, this new procedure just seemed absurd to me.

Except for #4 and #7&8 (and #7&8 are fairly common practice), I think that is pretty much straight out of the book for ALL fouls. Nothing specific about the intentional foul except for the specific signal for the type of foul.

All fouls have a fist, then a preliminary color/number/foul at the spot, followed by how/where play will resume, then the report to the table. If there is a made shot involved, we are to indicate that it counts (and that it is 3-points when necessary) as soon as it goes in...which puts it near the start of the list. Except for #4, there really isn't anything in this list that is abnormal. We may not detail the list as explicitly as above, but all of those things are part of the procedure.

I don't typically do #5, to be honest. On 8, I was thrown by the "modified bird dog" portion. I simply tell my partner the color and number of the shooter. I may or may not point at the shooter if there's any question of who should shoot.

but, I could see myself "flushing" this one somewhere around #2 or #3.

Sometimes after a foul (not necessarily, an intentional foul) on a successful three pointer, I will think about it afterward, and say to myself, "I can't believe that I did it all right this time", or, more often, "Gee, I probably looked like a traffic cop out there". I believe that it's, probably, the most complex series of signals that we have to give, and if you screw it up, I doubt, hopefully, that anyone will criticize you.
