Great, and as I just posted in another thread, welcome to the forum.
Many officials don't notice the formats, but pull out your copies of the rules and case books and take a look. You will see that the NFHS consistently does it that way. Sticking to that method helps keep us on the same page during discussions.

I think it's even mentioned in the first pages of either the rules or case book

CASE BOOK FORMAT

The play numbers identify the primary Rule, Section, Article of the rules book
which supports the interpretation. Play numbers are designated with a
“decimal” whereas a rule reference is shown with a “dash.” Example: 7.6.1 is
the case book play and 7-6-1 is the rules book reference.
