Same here. We don't see 3-person at the H.S. level until the playoffs.

I think Montana has to be one of the lower paying states. We get $36 for JV (all 2 person) and $51 for V (all 3 person). One good thing here is that in my area we have a majority of Class C schools (AA, A, B and C are our classes) and they play both boys and girls in one night so we get $102 for the night plus travel if you are the driver. No complaints though.

Western Md and West Virginia, we do 3 man Varsity $65 each, travel for 3 schools that are 60 miles away. $15 for 1 official. No travel for the other 9 schools.

We rarely ever double up.

JV is $45 to $50 per official. 2 man.

Middle schools $30 per official, per game, usually 3 games assigned.

That would open up a couple of more nights for other guys, plus one might also say this keeps officials fresher since they are not working every night.

I am not arguing one way or the other - I think they are lots of valid reasons to have different crews, work more nights, schools wanting a varsity only crew, etc. I am just looking at it from the economics.

I personally, would rather work 2 nights a week and work a JV/V doubleheader than work 4 nights and miss all of the chatter on here
It should be up to each official to decide how much he/she wants to work. It's why I despise the central assignor method. Under that system 17 years ago I would get 2-3 days a week and couldn't schedule anything else, even if I wanted to. Now, it's completely up to me and how far I'm willing to drive.

That said, I'm cutting back next season to 3 or so days a week by cutting out girls games. Another choice I never could've made elsewhere where you worked everything or nothing.

we're pretty fortunate here in that most of the suburban schools use 3 man for sub-varsity, even freshmen (girls and boys), so there are PLENTY of opportunities to learn 3-man, even for first year officials. The public schools in the city and some smaller Christian schools use 2 man, as do the middle schools, but 3 man is prob more common. Pay doesn't change, it's the same per official regardless of crew size.

Everything for the most part is done here in two person with the exception of certain tournament finals:

Two Person-Regular Season
$72.00 per person

Two Person-Playoff (All rounds up to quarter-finals)
$81.00 per person

Three Person-Regular Season
$68.00 per person

Three Person-Playoffs (quarter-finals and onward)
$77.00

Section Championship-3 Person
$85.00

mileage is compensated for according to this scale
51 - 75 miles = $12.00
76 - 125 miles = $18.00
126 - 175 miles = $30.00
176 - 250 miles = $42.00
251 - 350 miles = $54.00
351 - 450 miles = $72.00

St.Louis Metro area

Three Person $66.50
Two Person $76.50

There are very few two person varsity games in the St. Louis area. Some of the out state schools do two person and the pay varies by the school.

All lower level is two person.

None of the schools in the metro area pay mileage. Most trips are probably of the 20 to 40 minute drive variety. Sometimes traffic can make it longer but it is very rare to spend more than 40 minutes in your car to work a game in metro St. Louis.

If you get outside of the metro there are some schools that will pay mileage.

The fees are for single varsity games. Doubleheaders are rare. If you work a three person JV/Varsity the fee is $107.

Is the $72.00 supposed to cover an airline ticket?

It is required that three-man crews must use the Alternating Possession rule.
