NCAAM: Shot Clock Reset?

This is to settle a debate.

A shoots. Ball lodges. A has the AP.

Does the shot clock reset?

A case where officials are so caught up in the fine details that they forget about the elephant sitting next to them.

What did A1 do to start this play? (shoot the ball)

What did the ball do before whistle was blown? (hit the rim)

Almost, but not quite. Since this NCAA and not NBA, the question is, "did a TRY hit the rim?".

The answer is the same in this case, but it's an important distinction.

In FIBA, there is no reset. One of FIBA's most ridiculous interpretations.

I must of been in wonder land because I thought I read somewhere that it wasn't a reset.

A.R. 17 is pretty freaking clear though - thanks.

2013 NCAA Casebook, pg 8

A.R. 17 With the alternating-possession arrow favoring Team A and 20 seconds remaining on the shot clock, A1’s try for goal lodges between the backboard and the basket support.

RULING: Team A shall be awarded possession for a throw-in and the shot clock shall be reset.
(Rule 2-11.6.d)
