Winning shots...

I show up and watch a JV game before my Varsity game. The first half is winding down at this small gym with only one clock. Rockwell rebounds with 20 seconds to go and the visiting Varsity team in the front row starts screaming 3!,2!,1! and this kid thinking he has less time launches just over half court. The crowd is like what the heck!, until it rattles in. This puts them up 3 at half time. Both teams score the same number of points in the 2nd half and this half court shot that never should have happened wins the JV game.

Do any of you have some memorable shots during your career?

Nope, that's why I had to turn to officiating.

I hit a 25 foot 3 pointer at the end of the first half of a college intramural game once.

Rivalry game for my son's team this year. (I'm a fan for this one, not working.) Visiting student section tries the early countdown trick in the first half. The home team loses the ball, and fooled by his own contingent, V-12 lauches a backcourt shot that hits nothing but air, and leaves four seconds on the clock.

Actually, it didn't.

I have almost the opposite. My intramural mens team was 0-25 in our first 5 seasons ... and 0-4 in our 6th (and final) season. Last game of that year, we're facing another 0-4 whose scores against the other teams are as abysmal as ours, so we know this is our only chance.

There's no clock on the court in these games - they all start and end at the same time on every court - so we generally have a clock-keeper on the bench. We're down one with time winding down, other team with the ball. My clock guy yells 4 .... 3 .... 2 .... and the other team heaves one up from half court. I get the rebound. Clock guys says, "Mike - 12 seconds!!!" 2 passes later, our only decent shooter puts up an ugly shot that manages to go in for our only victory every.

Many, maybe too many, Jagermeisters.
Not that I was actually able to remember that many of them.
Quit once I started officiating.

I hear that 6th year hardship waiver process can be tricky!

As a player long long ago, I hit 2 half court shots at the buzzer and my oldest son hit one when they were down by 4. Lost by 1.

I once pick pocketed the ball from a player in a college intramural game, and took it in for a contested layup. Many people cheered and my friend says to me at half time, "Do you know who that was?" I didn't, so I said "their point guard?". I was informed that said player is an all-Canadian college point guard.

I'm pretty sure that we still lost.

Exclamation

When I was a teenager back in the 19th century, I was out in the street in front of my house with a basketball. My sister came out of the house and I threw the ball at her. It hit her head and then flew up and into the basket on the front of my neighbor's garage!

I asked her if we could try it a few more times but she said "nah".

So, what you're saying is, Dr. Naismith stole the game from you?
