Not intentional at all ... and the "stare down" only happened in the mind of the coach.
When their players get injured, coaches are likely to want an intentional/flagrant, but regular fouls can result in injuries and regular fouls can "look bad", but it does not make them rise to the level of an intentional or flagrant.
The referee communicates this well, by walking aimlessly around the court with his fist in the air for a full 10 seconds — the universal officiating signal for "I have a foul, but it is not intentional".
