Book Error
High school tournament. 10 minutes between each game.
Girls game. About 2 minutes left in the first quarter, the scorekeeper calls me over, I am not the R, jsut happened to be table side. A44 isn't in the book. I look at the book, check players number, and she is wearing 34. Go to tell A coach that 34 isn't in the book, she jumps up and says what? We go over to the book, and she sees it. She then tells me that she told the book keeper to copy it from yesterdays game, which was on the previous page of the book. The table confirms that they copied the line-up from previous day and wrote the wrong number in the book. What is the call? |

Correct the problem and move on.
I always let the coach's check the book and initial it - all problems are on them now. Last edited by tjones1; Mon Jan 14, 2013 at 01:50pm. Reason: First reply incorrect - missed they admitted a mistake. |

Had a veteran partner a few years ago (It was about my third or fourth year) give a technical when the bookkeeper messed up and copied the numbers wrong in the book. I tried to explain to him that if the scorekeeper messes up, you don't assess the technical, but he was having none of it, telling me that "The coach is responsible for everything".

The coach/team is only required to provide the correct information. If they provided the correct information, then it isn't their fault/problem. No T if the prior day's info had the correct number.

Further, it's not that the players and starters need to be written in the book by the 10 minute mark prior to the game. "...each team shall supply the official scorer with the name and number of...". Sometimes it doesn't get written in the book 'til the scorer gets back from the concession stand or something.......

Correct and play on is the correct response.I had a situation last year where a kid left his jersey in the washer so we had to get him another one.No one on the coaching staff had communicated the new # to me so at the first dead ball I brought my R over and explained the situation.First technical for that rule in what was then my sixth year of full time varsity scorekeeping.

?
SECTION 2 ROSTERS, STARTERS, NUMBERS
ART. 1 . . . At least 10 minutes before the scheduled starting time, each teamshall supply the official scorer with the name and number of each team member and designate the five starting players. Failure to comply results in a technical foul
