Please help! Is this a travel?

Hey everyone,

Is this a travel at 55min21sec?

Through the fire 2005 - YouTube

It's confusing me because unlike a regular lay up, the player picks up the ball on the right foot, then jumps and lands on the right instead of the left, then follows with a regular lay up. so the sequence is right(stop dribbling), right , left jump off left....normally a lay up is left(stop dribbling) then right step, left step, jump off left.

Thanks!!!

With the benefit of replay, yes it is, but in real time I can see where it might have been difficult to see when he actually caught the ball/ended the dribble.

That's a travel under NFHS, NCAA, and NBA rules.

I think that's what's popularly known as the old "Attempted Jump Stop with an Unsimultaneous Shoes Touch to the Floor" move.

How about the block/charge at 56:20. Looked to me like the secondary defender slid in after Telfair was already airborne.

Looked to me like the secondary defender didn't establish himself with LGP prior to contact. Shooter was airborne.

That is a travel that should not be missed.

As for 56:20, I have a block.

I'll bite on the travel

It looks to me like he ends his dribble with both feet off the floor. Am I completely seeing that wrong?

I like to call this the "everything's a charge" syndrome, which took effect years after "everything's a block" syndrome was cured. Whenever there's a collision and it's reasonably close, many officials ship it the other way rather than properly officiate the defense.
