Court Issues

Nice facility, but the court is slightly raised. OOB extends about 12 inches on the sidelines before it slopes down at about a 30 degree angle to roughly 8 inches below court level.

The court extends about six feet behind the baskets on the endlines before it just stops, leaving the eight inch drop off. There are unpadded wooden storage boxes adjacent to the basket base.

What would you do?

I think I would play the game and send a report to your governing body ASAP. I am reminded of the Marshall football game a few years ago where a receiver broke his leg on a cart left to the side of the field. Lawsuit has been settled now.

It's Your Move ...

Can the unpadded wooden storage boxes adjacent to the basket base be moved? I've moved many a chair, volleyball standard, photographer, cheerleader, piano, etc., over my thirty-plus years.

I'm calling the assignor before the game and addressing my safety concerns for the record as well as letting the game mgmt know as well. The wooden boxes would most definitely have to be moved. If the sidelines are bad enough that I fear for my own safety I may decline to work the game. I most definitely would not accept games there in the future.
