Does everyone announce direction and color? It is common in my area but I am not sure why.
As the R, I confirm with captains that their team is on the floor and ready to go. Then I whistle and toss. Probably less than 2 seconds between tweet and toss. Not much time to get in trouble. As a U, I keep my mouth shut and hope nothing blows up. Personally, I think a jump ball is a terrible way to get a great start to a game but a great way to get a terrible start to a game.
