Thumbs up And I thought I was old!

I got contacted by a reporter from the major newspaper here in Portland regarding a story they are working on about a local ref who does tons of rec games and is 70 years old! I've worked with this reporter on a few other stories and she knows I also am a ref, so she thought I might know the guy and could give her some info about him. I do work some rec games with him for two different assignors and he does an excellent job. His age is really not an issue as to the amount of energy he puts into his performance.

If and when the story runs, I'll enter a link so you guys can read it.

I hope I can continue into my later years and can give the effort necessary and required to be perceived as still doing a good job.....and then, I know when to let it go!

We have a 70-year-old in our group as well; he also does football, and is featured in the article below, which followed one of our football crews on a Friday night

Last spring I worked a HS softball game with a guy who was turning 75 in May 2011!

Sad part was that he moved better than some partners I've worked with who were 45-50!

Similar to my long term goals. When I retire from the glamorous life of an environmental chemist, I hope to be healthy enough to work the 3:30 p.m. middle school games, and 4:00 p.m. high school freshman games.

My dad is 71. There is an "BCS" conference basketball official still working many games with whom my dad played HS basketball.

It's just a number, anyway.

That's wierd - I'm closer in age to your dad than to his #1 son. OR, I'm just an old fart.

I guess this would be the correct thread to juxtapose your signature with the First Rule.

Man I've gone almost a whole season without seeing a reference to the First Rule...

LOL!! Yes, I admit to doing that. But, I'm not sure which end that it came out of.

I worked a rec game yesterday with another old guy. I told him about the story coming up. He told me he is only one month younger than the other guy! I asked him if he wanted me to contact the reporter and tell her about him, but he asked me not to do that.

When he told me he also was 70, I was shocked. If I had to guess his age just by how he looks and his physical ability, I would have guessed somewhere in the mid to late 50s.
