If the pants are long, how would we know whether the undergarments - compression shorts/tights - are above the knee? And why would we care? Or, did I miss a smiley face somewhere in this discussion?

Because the player would get injured during the game, the player's mother would run onto the floor to check on her child, NVRef would T up the mother and the mother would scream at NVRef, "You're a joke! He's wearing tights under his pants and you didn't even know it!" as she was being escorted from the gym.

That's how he would know.
