I've gone over to the other side - almost

No, I'm not becoming a coach, but I am going to run the clock one night this week. I got a call from a buddy who is working on a girl's HS jamboree at the local HS. He wanted to know if I could come over the following day and fill in for someone who had to bow out at the last minute. It's only for one game and I get snacks. I told him I would do it.

I promise not to correct any of the calls by the refs.

If you need a class, I know someone on your side of the country who may be able to help out!

Glad you didn't spell it the OTHER way.

BTW - the other two teams involved are Clackamas and Westview. It's a short round robin jamboree with the teams playing "short games" and taking turns playing one another. I was told that in the one hour plus that I'll be running the clock, there will be three "short games". These are all varsity girls HS teams.

The best table personnel available: a floor official. No need to ask for any help.

Well, I just got home and it was a lot of fun. The "games" were 12 minute stop time. Westview won both their games, Tigard split their two and Clackamas lost both of theirs. The officials did a great job and called a lot of fouls. In fact, in two of the games, we were in double bonus both ways.

Running the clock was no challenge. I don't think I made any mistakes and no one yelled at me. Occasionally, I would check with the book guy to make sure I had the correct score and number of fouls on the board and we never had anything different from each other.

None of the coaches did much yelling at the refs, but one of them really yelled at his girls and he got pretty nasty about it. If I was one of their parents, I probably would have smacked the guy.

Oh yeah, the snacks were great.

Sounds like you had a great time doing table operations.
